Cop slain in Quezon City ambush

MANILA, Philippines — A policeman was killed in an ambush shortly after he left the Anonas police station in Quezon City on Saturday night.

M/Sgt. Anthony Lacson, 41, died before reaching the Quirino Memorial Medical Center.

Lacson was on a motorcycle at the corner of Anonas and Naranghita streets on his way home when two motorcycle-riding assailants fired at him.

Lt. Col. Cipriano Galanida, Anonas police station commander, said a special investigation task group was formed to look into Lacson’s death.

Meanwhile, in Pasay City, former barangay chairman Carlos Aquino, 67, was arrested in a drug sting on Friday.

Aquino and his companion, Estrella Lopez, were nabbed after they allegedly sold P200 worth of shabu to a policeman who posed as a buyer. – Ghio Ong
