Barangay chairman shot dead in Tondo

MANILA, Philippines — Four days after a barangay chairwoman was killed in Sta. Cruz, Manila, another barangay executive was gunned down by motorcycle-riding men in Tondo yesterday morning.

The murder of Barangay 161 chairman Alfredo Lansingan was caught on closed-circuit television footage.

CCTV footage showed that Lansingan was on a motorcycle when the assailants fired at him at the corner of Solis and Dagupan streets at around 9:30 a.m.

At least four shots were fired before the gunmen fled, according to homicide investigators.

A police intelligence officer who reviewed the video said four to six men were involved in the ambush.

The footage showed that Lansingan stopped driving after one of the suspects called him.

Lt. Denis Javier, homicide chief investigator of the Manila Police District, said they have yet to determine if Lasingan was on the drug watchlist.

A source told The STAR that the barangay official was not included in the drug list.

On Sunday, Barangay 314 chairwoman Aileen Guidotong was shot dead by a masked man while talking to her secretary.

Police said Guidotong had been a high-value target after President Duterte named her as a drug protector in 2016.
