PNP hits Angkas for sex tweet
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday criticized motorcycle ride-hailing firm Angkas for its tweet, which likened its services to sex.
The PNP’s Twitter hotline account called out Angkas for its tweet, saying it is unacceptable to use sexual undertones in advertisements.
“This is not promoting public safety in transport business anymore,” the PNP Twitter hotline account said in a statement.
The PNP also tagged the Twitter accounts of Angkas and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
In a tweet which it has since deleted, Angkas said: “Angkas is like sex. It’s scary the first time pero masarap na ulit-ulitin (but fun to do over and over again).”
Angkas, for its part, has apologized for its “misstep” which the ride-hailing firm said was brought by “playful” and “funny” members of their social media team.
“We would like to emphasize that making our riders feel uncomfortable is the last thing we want to do. For this, we sincerely apologize,” Angkas said in a statement.
It added the while the issue of sex should be discussed maturely and openly, “our treatment of it through this tweet was far from desirable.”
“Sex should never be used to create shame, fear or disgust, and certainly not used lightly for the sake of some buzz,” Angkas said. – AFP
