Maynilad customers in Las Piñas to get rebate
MANILA, Philippines — Some customers of Maynilad Water Services Inc. in Las Piñas will get rebates of up to P2,500 starting next month, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) said yesterday.
The MWSS Regulatory Office said Maynilad will give a rebate of P2,500 each to 1,814 households in Barangay Captain Albert Aguilar.
“The number came from them. But we will still investigate because there might still be more. We cannot just accept that, we have to double check also. But they already said they will pay,” MWSS chief regulator Patrick Ty said on the sidelines of the Water Forum.
The MWSS board decided on the financial penalty following the water firm’s failure to comply with its service obligations under the concession agreement specifically on providing uninterrupted water services.
The service interruptions were due to the unusual algae proliferation in Laguna Lake last April and low water levels in Angat dam.
