8 students hurt in Zamboanga covered court collapse
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Eight high school students were injured when the ceiling of a covered court they were using as a temporary classroom in a remote village in this city collapsed yesterday.
Teachers said more than 50 Grade 9 students of the Sinubong National High School were holding classes amid heavy rains when water leaked through the ceiling at around 8:30 a.m.
“The students were hit by falling debris,” village councilman Jason Macaso who responded to the incident, said.
Teacher Leida Peñaflorida said she was in an another schoolbuilding when she heard a loud sound. When she came out, she said she saw the roof fell down.
