Magnitude 5.2 quake jolts Mindanao

Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.2 earthquake shook parts of Mindanao before dawn yesterday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The tremor occurred at about 4:41 a.m., with its epicenter located 17 kilometers east of Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat.

No damage was reported, but aftershocks are expected from the quake, Phivolcs said.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are common.

Phivolcs said around 20 quakes hit the country everyday but only a few are felt.
