Man held for teen’s slay
MANILA, Philippines — A 22-year-old man was arrested Thursday for killing a 16-year-old boy in Tondo, Manila last Tuesday.
Mark Joseph Vasquez was arrested in Barangay 68 in Tondo after police officers viewed closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the incident, according to Manila Police District Station 1 commander Lt. Col. Reynaldo Magdaluyo.
Vasquez was identified by two teenagers who were with victim Kevin Lois Monsod, Magdaluyo said.
Surveillance footage showed Vasquez and three girls on a motorcycle passing through the intersection of Concha and Quezon streets at around 2:10 a.m.
Monsod’s parents said Vasquez stopped and confronted the victim after he greeted one of the girls “Hello, pangit (ugly).” Monsod and the girl were classmates in grade school, police said.
Minutes after the suspect drove away, he returned and shot at Monsod, surveillance footage showed.
Vasquez denied being the same man seen shooting Monsod.
