Man driving from passenger seat faces raps

MANILA, Philippines — A motorist may have his driver’s license revoked after he was seen in a viral video driving his car while in the passenger seat.

Miko Lopez documented his stunt in a 50-second video uploaded on social media platform Facebook.

In the video, Lopez was in his car along a busy road while he was in the passenger seat, with his left leg apparently on the brakes.

He even lit a cigarette and said, “Basta lahat ng bawal ginagawa ko.”

Lopez’s misbehavior did not sit well with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), which vowed to hold him accountable for endangering the lives of other motorists.

Lopez was a no-show during a hearing yesterday at the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

Officials said charges of reckless driving, not wearing a seat belt and illegal modifications for removing a steering wheel are being readied against Lopez.

Director Francis Almora, who heads the LTO law enforcement service division, said Lopez’s license may be revoked permanently.

“That kind of action should never be done as it could put other motorists and pedestrians in danger,” he said.
