2 alleged robbers killed by cops
MANILA, Philippines — Two suspected robbers were killed in what police said was a shootout along the MacArthur Bridge in Ermita, Manila before dawn yesterday.
Allan Danmalong, 38, of Hidalgo Street, Quiapo, Manila, and Michael Diquiñon, 21, of Baseco Compound in Port Area, died at the scene from gunshots to the body.
A third suspect managed to escape, according to Manila Police District (MPD) Station 5 commander Lt. Col. Igmedio Bernaldez.
Prior to the shootout, Bernaldez said Carmela Dionisio, 46, and Marvin Gerald Salcedo, 27, reported to police that three men on a motorcycle robbed them at gunpoint in front of the Mehan Garden at around 2:36 a.m.
Policemen immediately responded and caught up with the suspects.
Instead of yielding, the suspects allegedly opened fire, prompting the lawmen to retaliate.
Bernaldez said Danmalong and Diquiñon were on the drug watchlist of the MPD.
Police said they recovered two .38-caliber handguns and a motorcycle at the scene.
