MANILA, Philippines — The planned closure of the Marcos Highway Bridge will finally push through tomorrow, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced yesterday.

MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia said the bridge would be closed to motorists for four-month rehabilitation.

He said the Department of Public Works and Highways would start working on the eastbound lane of the bridge starting at 11 p.m.

“After two weeks of preparations, it is definite the Marcos Highway Bridge will be closed for four months to give way for repairs,” Garcia told reporters.

The bridge was scheduled to be closed on May 4, but was moved to a later date due to lack of alternate routes for the trucks that will be affected by the closure.

Garcia said works on the westbound lane would start after the repair of the eastbound lane is finished.

At least 6,400 vehicles daily will be affected by the bridge’s closure, which will last until September.
