Detained vice mayor reelected

JABONGA, Agusan del Norte, Philippines — Detained Vice Mayor Glicerio Monton Jr. of this town has been proclaimed winner by the municipal board of canvassers.

Monton garnered 6,557 votes and beat his rival, board member Niay Moran, who got 6,551 votes.

Monton’s wife, reelectionist Mayor Jasmin Monton of the Nacionalista Party, was defeated by newcomer Napoleon Montero of the administration party PDP-Laban.

Jasmin garnered 6,681 votes while Montero got 6,718.

Monton was arrested in 2018 following a raid on his home in Barangay Poblacion here, which reportedly resulted in the recovery of shabu with an estimated street value of P708,000 and a grenade.

Monton is detained at the Agusan del Norte Jail in Cabadbaran City.
