Woman dies in Caloocan fire

MANILA, Philippines — A 46-year-old woman died when a fire struck a residential area in Caloocan City on Tuesday.

Alice Simbulan, 46, carried her paralyzed mother outside after the fire broke out along 4th Avenue in Nadurata street, Barangay 49. 

Simbulan went back to the house to get their belongings. But she failed to come out alive, according to city fire marshal Superintendent Stephen Requina.

Requina said 35 houses were destroyed by the fire.

Damage to property was estimated at P1.2 million.

The fire reached the third alarm before it was declared under control.

Fire Officer 1 Bernard Asistorga was injured during the incident.

Arson probers said they have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
