Vico Sotto ends Eusebios' 27-year hold on Pasig

MANILA, Philippines (2nd update, 8:45 a.m.) — After 27 years of the Eusebio clan dominating Pasig City, a new name will take over the city's leadership — Vico Sotto.

Sotto, an incumbent councilor, won the mayoral race against incumbent Mayor Robert "Bobby" Eusebio of the Nacionalista Party.

As of posting time, Sotto is expecting an official proclamation from the Commission on Elections. "Sulit po ang pagod at effort natin. Narinig na ng bayan ang ating tinig," he writes on Facebook past 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

The 29-year Pasig mayor-elect is a Political Science graduate from Ateneo de Manila University. He is the son of actors Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes.

In the congressional race for the lone district of Pasig, Roman Romulo won against incumbent Rep. Richard Eusebio.

Both Sotto and Romulo are candidates from Aksyon Demokratiko party.

As of 4:20 a.m., 93.74% of precincts in the city have transmitted results to the Comelec. The Pasig City Board of Canvassers granted the motion of the camp of Sotto and Romulo to lower the threshold of the proclamation to 90%.

The latest update from the transparency server showed Sotto has garnered 202,403 votes against Bobby Eusebio's 117,063 votes. Romulo claimed a landslide victory with 210,837 against Richard Eusebio, who got 92,089 votes.
