Taiwanese boat rescues 3 Pinoy fishers

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Three Filipino fishermen, who spent four days adrift at sea, have been rescued by a Taiwanese fishing boat off the coast of Batanes, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said yesterday.

Arthur Yang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office informed the PCG that Redento Fronda, 39; Jovani Tablisima, 24, and Roland Duerme, 18, all residents of Babuyan Island, were transferred to Taiwanese fishing vessel Xhin Zhenfeng 3 while their boat was towed to Itbayat.

The fishermen were on their way to Calayaan Island when their boat experienced engine trouble.

The fishermen were picked up by the PCG’s BRP Malabrigo and brought to Basco. Their fishing boat was turned over to the PCG-Batanes station for disposition.
