Cops raid Ampatuan compound; grenades, ammo seized

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines — Rounds of ammunition for a caliber 5.56 rifle and two grenades were recovered during a raid on the compound of the late former Maguindanao governor Andal Ampatuan Sr. in Shariff Aguak on Tuesday.

Chief Superintendent Graciano Mijares of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police said the raid was based on search warrants issued against Kamsa, Nasri, Benhar and Pangandaman, all surnamed Salik, and Kuryano and Babai Mama, both surnamed Usop,  workers at the compound.

Mijares said the persons named in the search warrants eluded arrest.

“Our intelligence units are validating reports... that they managed to escape as the vehicles carrying the operatives reached the premises of the compound,” he said.
