Quakes jolt Visayas, Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines — Two earthquakes shook parts of the Visayas and Mindanao on Friday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a magnitude  4.1 quake occurred at about 10:40 p.m.

The epicenter of the tremor was located six kilometers  northwest of Carmen, North Cotabato.

Allan Rommel Labayog, Phivolcs regional field monitoring officer, said the quake was felt at Intensity 2 in Kidapawan City.

Phivolcs said another quake with a magnitude 6.2 quake struck at about 11:08 p.m.

The epicenter of the quake was located 38 kms northwest of Burgos, Surigao del Norte.

The quake was felt at Intensity 5, which is classified as strong, in Burgos, Surigao City and  Dinagat island.

It was felt at Intensity 4, or moderately strong, in Butuan City, Abuyog and Tacloban City in Leyte and Hinunangan, San Francisco and San Ricardo in Southern Leyte.

The quake was felt at Intensity 3 in Palo, Leyte; Borongan, Eastern Samar; Cebu City and Gingoog, Misamis Oriental and Intensity 2 on Camiguin island and in Argao, Cebu.
