MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde yesterday urged parents whose children became victims of the viral “Momo challenge” to come forward and help in the investigation.
Albayalde said in a news briefing at Camp Crame victims should provide information on who could be behind the deadly online game.
“If there really are victims among Filipinos, they have to come into the open,” he said.
The online game allegedly encourages children to do violent acts, including suicide.
Albayalde said he has yet to receive an update from the Anti-Cybecrime Group, which he tasked to conduct an investigation on the challenge.
“Personally, I have no experience on it,” he said.
National Capital Region Police Office chief Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar earlier said people should downplay the online game as there is no evidence that it actually exists.
“Netizens should not give this game too much publicity,” he said.
