Suspected Negros Occidental drug dealer slain

Gilbert Bayoran - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — An alleged leader of a drug group was killed Thursday by two motorcycle-riding gunmen in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Abdul Halim Mangontawar, 51, who was also an official of the Muslim community, was feeding game fowls at his house when he was shot.

Chief Inspector Edison Garcia, spokesman of the Negros Occidental police provincial office, added that the victim was declared dead on arrival at San Carlos District Hospital.

Mangontawar’s son-in-law, Muksin Asis, was shot in the foot when he tried to help the victim.

Police claimed that the victim was the leader of the Manguntawar Drug Group, which allegedly sells narcotics in San Carlos City and neighboring towns in Negros Occidental.

Responding policemen recovered empty shells at the scene.

Mangontawar was the third drug suspect killed in Negros Occidental since last month.
