Go pushes ‘township’ relocation for informal settlers

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Former special assistant to the president Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go said Monday morning that the government must provide “township” relocation sites to informal settlers.

“Each location must be complete with basic facilities, like a market, terminal, health center, day care center and livelihood assistance center,” he told local officials and employees during the flag-raising ceremony at Parañaque’s city hall.

Go, who is vying for a Senate seat in May’s midterm elections, said a complete relocation site is a long-term solution to the issue of informal settlers.

He said that if elected, he would help local government units in Metro Manila establish housing projects.

Go said he has sought the help of the National Housing Authority and other concerned government agencies to help informal settlers, particularly those who are victims of recent fire incidents in the metropolis.
