John Unson - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — At least 26 child warriors of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Eastern Samar surrendered over the weekend.

The rebels are with the NPA’s Militia ng Bayan, which is tagged in extortion targeting farming communities, according to the 14th Infantry Battalion (IB).

Lt. Col. Jimmy Jimenez, 14th IB commander, said Mayor Norman Germino of Can-avid town and barangay officials helped in the negotiations for the surrender of the rebels.

In Ifugao, two young rebels identified only as Ilyong and Cindy were rescued following an encounter with soldiers in Barangay Namal, Asipulo on Friday. The rebels were turned over to their families. – Artemio Dumlao
