Village chief shot dead
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Motorcycle-riding assailants shot dead a barangay chairman here on Saturday night.
Nelson Ligaya Jr., 48, was declared dead on arrival at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center from six gunshot wounds.
Ligaya, who was in his last term as chairman of Barangay 16, was standing in front of his house at past 9 p.m. when a motorcycle with two men on board pulled over.
One of the men reportedly pulled out a gun and shot Ligaya several times.
Probers recovered from the crime scene bullet shells for a .45 caliber pistol.
The victim was not involved in illegal drugs, according to Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, spokesman for the Bacolod City police.
Police are eyeing a financial dispute as the motive for the killing. – Emmanuel Tupas
