Leila de Lima seeks probe on PNP’s ‘sex-for-freedom’ scheme

MANILA, Philippines — Detained Sen. Leila de Lima has filed a resolution seeking a Senate investigation on the alleged “palit puri” or sex-for-freedom scheme by policemen.

In filing Senate Resolution 930, De Lima cited the arrest of a police officer for allegedly demanding sex from a 15-year-old girl whose parents were arrested  for drugs on Oct. 25.

The girl said Police Officer 1 Eduardo Valencia, an anti-drug operative of the Manila Police District, forced her to have sex with him in exchange for the release of her parents.

De Lima said data from the Center for Women’s Resources showed that 56 policemen have been involved in 33 cases of violence against women since President Duterte assumed office.

In 12 of these cases, the victims were either drug suspects, relatives of drug suspects or were assaulted during anti-narcotics operations, De Lima said.
