Makati City gas station closed over gas leak

MANILA, Philippines — A gasoline station in Barangay Bangkal, Makati City was temporarily closed after a gas leak was reported yesterday afternoon.

Phoenix reported the possible gas leak in one of its underground pumping stations at the intersection of Evangelista and Estrella streets at around 4 p.m., said Senior Superintendent Rogelio Simon, Makati police chief.

Members of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) cordoned off the area to ensure that no one will be affected in case of an emergency, he said.

Simon said covers of drainage pipes near the gasoline stations were opened to determine what caused the gas leak as they could not yet determine the source of the leak.

The BFP drained and flushed the pumping stations and put chemical foam on top of the canals to prevent an explosion.

No one was reported affected or injured during the incident, which is being investigated by the BFP.
