Magnitude 5.1 quake shakes Visayas and Mindanao
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake shook parts of the Visayas and Mindanao yesterday, but state seismologists said there were no reports of damage or injuries.
The tremor, which occurred at about 11:52 a.m., was centered 35 kilometers northwest of Jose Dalman town in Zamboanga del Norte, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The quake was felt at Intensity 3 in Manukan and Dipolog City.
The tremor was felt at Intensity 2 in Labason, Salug, Liloy and Sindangan also in Zamboanga del Norte as well as in Baliangao, Misamis Occidental; Zamboanga City; Dumaguete, Negros Oriental; Pagadian, Zamboanga del Sur, and Larena, Siquijor.
The temblor was also felt in Sibulan, Negros Oriental and Cebu City.
Phivolcs said the quake, which had a depth of 19 kms, was not expected to generate aftershocks. – Roel Pareño
