MMDA on blue alert for Ompong

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) was placed on blue alert yesterday for the possible onslaught of Typhoon Ompong in the metropolis.

MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim deployed 700 disaster responders and frontline personnel to provide assistance to the public.

Lim also placed the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on alert status.

He instructed personnel of the agency’s Road Emergency Group, Public Safety Division, Flood Control and Sewerage and Management Unit, Rescue Battalion and Metro Parkways Clearing Group to be on standby for any emergency.

Lim asked local government units to implement disaster preparation measures to ensure the safety of the public during floods and landslides.
