19 hurt in bus smashup along EDSA

MANILA, Philippines — Nineteen passengers were injured when a bus rear-ended another bus along EDSA in Makati City during yesterday morning’s rush hour.

Driver Fruto Avila allegedly lost control of the Joyselle Express bus he was driving upon reaching the Magallanes bus stop and slammed into a Valenzuela Transport Service Cooperative bus driven by Edwin Alfaro, police said.

Avila’s bus hit the railings and concrete firewall fence of San Lorenzo Village, police said.

The incident, which occurred at past 6 a.m., caused heavy traffic on EDSA’s southbound lane that reached Timog Avenue in Quezon City. The buses were removed at past 9 a.m.
