MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area was spotted east of Luzon yesterday, but the state weather bureau said it was not expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone this week. 

Chris Perez, senior weather specialist at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, said the trough of the low-pressure area was forecast to bring light to moderate rains over Eastern Visayas. 

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, the low-pressure area was located 435 kilometers east of Legazpi, Albay.
