Mayor hurt, 4 slain in Lanao ambush
LANAO DEL , Philippines — Four persons were killed while two others including a municipal mayor in this province were wounded in an ambush in Pantao Ragat town yesterday morning.
Mayor Mohammad Lacson Lantud of Pantao Ragat and one of his aides, Farmon Macalimba, were taken to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.
Lantud’s security men, identified as Khaliq Disamburon, Hasanoding Hasim, Tarapas Saro and Police Officer 2 Mahid Macalaba were reportedly killed in the attack.
The victims were in a pickup truck on their way to a water supply project when they were waylaid in Barangay Cabasagan at past 8 a.m., police said.
The assailants, who were armed with assault rifles, fled after sensing the arrival of barangay officials and watchmen.
Police have yet to identify the suspects and determine the motive for the attack.
