NPA rebels kill civilian in Negros Occidental

Gilbert Bayoran - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A civilian was killed in an ambush staged by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Toboso, Negros Occidental on Thursday.

Lusan Ledama, 66, and Jose Villagante, 67, were on their way to Escalante City when they were waylaid in Barangay San Isidro.

Ledama died at the scene. Villagante was wounded and brought to a hospital for treatment.

Prior to the incident, Ledama reportedly received death threats from the rebels, who accused him of being a military asset.

NPA guerrillas also burned a cargo truck loaded with fertilizer  in Barangay Magallon Cadre, Moises Padilla.

At least five men who introduced themselves as NPA rebels approached Ignacio Ogatis while supervising  the unloading of fertilizer then shot the fuel tank of the truck and poured gasoline on the vehicle before setting it on fire.
