Woman drowns as boat capsizes in Pangasinan

BUGALLON, Pangasinan, Philippines — A 60-year-old woman drowned while four others were injured when a motorized banca capsized in a river here on Monday.

Premitiva Aguilan was declared dead on arrival at the Lingayen District Hospital.

Aguilan’s husband Hernacio, 64, and his fellow passengers – Mariel, 19; Joey, 30, and Helen, 50 – all surnamed Prado, were taken to the same hospital for treatment.

The victims were on their way home from Barangay Lasip in nearby Lingayen town when their boat capsized in the Agno River in Barangay Bolaoen.

Village residents helped rescue the passengers and rushed them to the hospital.

Probers are verifying reports that the boat was overloaded.
