MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard yesterday warned that a fake PCG Auxiliary (PCGA) unit may have dangled star ranks to recruit members, just like what happened to Interior Undersecretary Martin Diño.

PCG spokesperson Capt. Armand Balilo said the  Manila Yacht Club  101st PCGA squadron – reportedly led by Winefredo Villanueva, who claims to hold the rank of PCGA vice admiral, – might have duped others.

He asked those who were tricked into giving membership dues or were approached for other fees to come forward and report to the PCG office.

Balilo said that they would also investigate the circumstances surrounding Diño, who may have been duped by Villanueva and his group.
