ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A retired teacher and her granddaughter died in a fire in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte on Wednesday night.
Martina Toledo, 71, and Marcelle Abby, 15, were trapped in their house when the fire broke out at around 11:20 p.m. in Barangay Poblacion.
Initial investigation showed a candle that was left unattended caused the fire. The town has been experiencing power outages since it was battered by Typhoon Vinta last month.
