Passenger bus strafed in Zambo; 8 hurt

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Eight persons, including two women, were wounded when unidentified men strafed a passenger bus along the highway east of this city on Tuesday night.

The Rural Transit bus (JVH-447) was on its way to Pagadian City when the gunmen who positioned themselves on both sides of the road in Barangay Buenavista opened fire at around 11:45 p.m. 

Chief Inspector Ramon Bautista Jr., Station 2 police chief, said the driver sped to the nearest Marines detachment and sought assistance. 

The victims were brought to the Paragas Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Probers are eyeing extortion as the motive for the attack.
