Cop in governor aide’s slay surrenders

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Philippines – A police officer who reportedly killed his lover’s husband, the Apayao governor’s chief of staff, surrendered to his colleagues on Sunday.

Police Officer 1 Clifford Dulnuan, 32, surrendered to the members of Kiangan police in Ifugao after his father sought the help of Chief Inspector Alexander Cabang, chief of the Diadi police in Nueva Vizcaya.

Cabang and Dulnuan’s father went to Kiangan after the suspect sent surrender feelers.

Dulnuan allegedly shot dead lawyer Jemar Apada, 29, at the victim’s residence in Diadi on Dec. 1.

Apada, chief of staff of Apayao Gov. Elias Bulut Jr., arrived home at dawn and found his wife and Dulnuan sleeping together.

The victim, who was based in Apayao, had not informed his wife Jenny that he was coming home.

Jenny is a police officer assigned to the children and women’s desk at the Diadi police station, where Dulnuan is assigned.

The suspect fled after allegedly shooting Apada, who was taken by his wife to a hospital.

Cabang said Dulnuan fled to Baguio City after the incident. Dulnuan was placed under the custody of the Public Safety Company in Bayombong.
