30 CAAP workers fail drug test, axed
MANILA, Philippines – Thirty of the more than 5,000 employees of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) have been terminated after they tested positive for drug use.
Officials said 5,555 CAAP personnel at 81 airports nationwide underwent drug testing recently.
CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said airport workers who failed the drug testing have been dismissed from the service.
“We’re still waiting for the results of the drug testing of the remaining eight percent of CAAP employees from other facilities and stations,” Apolonio said.
The CAAP declared five airports under its supervision as drug-free. These are the airports in Davao, Laoag, Tuguegarao, Puerto Princesa and Tacloban.
The CAAP supervises 81 airports nationwide and manages airside operations of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Subic, Clark and Cebu-Mactan International airports.
Apolonio said the CAAP’s anti-drug program was in line with the Civil Service Commission’s memorandum circular, which calls for a drug-free workplace in government offices.
