MANILA, Philippines - A residential condominium in Malate, Manila was evacuated yesterday after an employee found an alarm clock, made to look like a bomb, on the 29th floor of the building.

Members of the Manila Police District-Explosives and Ordnance Division (MPD-EOD) rushed to the Birch Tower Condominium on Jorge Bocobo street at around 10 a.m. after the employee reported seeing a timer attached to sticks of dynamite.

Other police officers closed off the street as bomb experts took the “bomb” to the middle of the street.

Inspector Arnold Santos, MPD-EOD chief, said the alarm clock can be bought in Divisoria.

He said it was the second time they responded to such a mistake, but “it’s okay because it shows that the public is vigilant and ready.”

The situation went back to normal an hour later.

Also yesterday, employees and applicants were evacuated from the Parkview Plaza Trida building, which houses the Metropolitan Trial Court of Manila and the Maritime Industry Authority, after receiving a bomb threat.
