No toilets in 2,797 Aurora households – DSWD

BALER, Aurora, Philippines – At least 2,797 households in Aurora have no toilets, according to a report of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The town of Dipaculao, which has a population of 29,000, has the most number of households without toilets at 458, followed by Casiguran with 457 and Dingalan with 451.

In San Luis, 397 households have no toilets; Dilasag, 385; Baler, 278; Maria Aurora, 271, and Dinalungan, 100.

The report is contained in the Listahanan or National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction of the DSWD in Central Luzon.

Gemma Gabuya, DSWD regional director, said Listahanan is the basis for selecting the beneficiaries of the government’s social protection programs and services such as the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps.      

Jessa Marzan, DSWD statistician, said Aurora has 9,609 poor households. Of these families, 4,679 have water-sealed toilets while  1,353 have closed-pit facilities.

Meanwhile, Dipaculao Mayor Joanna Cabauatan-Salamanca, gave assurance she  would address the situation in her town.     

“That is on the list of our priorities,” Cabauatan said.
