DAR exec suspended

MANILA, Philippines - The Office of the Ombudsman has suspended a provincial official of the Department of Agrarian Reform for “disgraceful and immoral conduct” and absenteeism.

Romeo Covarrubias, agrarian reform adjudicator in Davao Oriental, was suspended for one year.

Investigation showed Covarrubias, who was married, cohabited with another woman whom he introduced as his spouse.

“His acts (were) willful and shameless and show a moral indifference to the opinion of his co-employees and the public,” the anti-graft court said.

Graft probers said Covarrubias had unauthorized absen-ces from May to December 2013.

Records show that he worked only for two days in May, nine days in June, seven days in July, eight days in August, 12 days in September, 14 days in October, nine days in November and four days in December.

Covarrubias failed to justify his absences, the ombudsman said.
