MANILA, Philippines - At least three million voters have registered for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on Oct. 31, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) reported yesterday.

Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista said there was an increase in the number of  registrants in the last two days of the registration period, which ended on Saturday.

“We are still finalizing the data but it seems it will reach three million,“ Bautista said.

He said around two million of those who registered will participate in the SK elections.

Bautista said they would verify the fingerprints of the registrants using the Automated Fingerprint Identification System and remove those with double or multiple registration.

The applications will be screened by the  election registration board that will also hear petitions for disqualification.

Bautista said those who have questions on the qualifications of a registrant can file their petitions from Aug. 11 to 15.

“Those who wish to be included (on the list of voters) can also file a petition for inclusion with the MTC (Metropolitan Trial Court), but they must have valid reasons,” he said.
