Suspect in killing of mayor, watchman nabbed

MANILA, Philippines - After 23 years in hiding, the prime suspect in the killing of a town mayor and a village watchman in Pangasinan was arrested yesterday in Aguilar town.

Amante de la Cruz, 47, a former member of the Citizens Armed Force Geographical Unit, did not resist arrest when collared while visiting his relatives in Sitio Tambugan, Barangay Poblacion at around 11:30 a.m.

De la Cruz was accused of killing former Aguilar town mayor Angelito Nava and Enzo Paulo.

Senior Superintendent Ronald Lee, Pangasinan police director, said the arrest was based on a warrant issued by Judge Eugenio Ramos of the Lingayen Regional Trial Court Branch 37.
