Lanao del Sur guv vows to continue son's peace, dev't programs

MARAWI CITY, Philippines - The mother of now Lanao del Sur Vice Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr. on Saturday assured to continue the peace and development programs of his son, whose gubernatorial post she took over last Thursday.

Lanao del Sur’s new governor, Soraya Alonto-Adiong, told reporters on Saturday she had received from her son, who was governor of the province for three consecutive terms that lasted from June 30, 2007 to June 30, 2016, all records of his programs and projects that she needs to continue.

Adiong Jr. is popular for his having implemented dozens of infrastructure projects in Lanao del Sur, along with the now second-termer Gov. Mujiv Hataman of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Adiong Jr. and her mother were sworn to office as vice governor and governor, respectively, last Thursday by lawyer Bashary Mapupuno, provincial prosecutor for Lanao del Sur.

“I shall continue what `Bombit’ started and I will even intensify all of his peace and development initiatives. My guide in managing the provincial government shall be the Philippine Charter and the Holy Qur’an,” said the 72-year-old Adiong clan matriarch.

Adiong Jr. is most known in Lanao del Sur by his nickname, Bombit. He and his mother were running mates during the May 9 local polls.

The father of Adiong Jr., the late Mamintal Adiong Sr. had served as congressional representative of Lanao del Sur for three consecutive terms and, subsequently, as governor of the province for two terms before he died of liver cancer.
