US fugitive arrested in Ilocos Norte faces deportation

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte - Police operatives arrested a fugitive wanted by the United States (US) federal authorities for two counts of sexual assault in Bacarra town, Tuesday.

Elvin Daduyo Asuncion, 22, US citizen and presently residing in San Simon village, Bacarra, Ilocos Norte was arrested by joint elements of Bureau of Immigration and Deportation (BID), Overseas Criminal Investigations of the US Embassy and Provincial Intelligence Branch of the Philippine National Police.

Police Superintendent Leland Benigno of the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office said the suspect will be facing deportation by virtue of a warrant issued by Commissioner Ronaldo Geron of the BID.

Benigno said the service of the warrant is pursuant to the request of the US Embassy to bring the suspect before US laws for the crime of two counts of sexual assault in the second degree stipulated in the arrest warrant issued by Hawaii State circuit court Judge Joseph Cardz with a recommended bailbond of $500,000 or P23 million.
