ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - A big fire razed at least five semi-apartment units and a warehouse Monday night in a village in this city, displacing 30 families.

The city fire department reported the conflagration occurred about 8 p.m. at Duston Drive, Barangay Kasanyangan which gutted down mostly two-storey semi-concrete apartment units and a warehouse of an aquamarine product buying station.

No one was reported hurt from the blaze as fire fighters managed to contain the fire from spreading towards the adjacent slum area.

City fire marshal Chief Inspector Clint Cha said the blaze was triggered by an unattended lighted candle in a room occupied by a certain Radin Ali, son of Jamal Ali, who is the owner of one of the houses destroyed by fire.

The fire bureau has yet to determine the total amount of damage while the 30 affected families were provided relief assistance.
