Man hurt in Bacolod fire

Danny B. Dangcalan - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – A man was injured in a fire that left at least 51 families homeless in a coastal village in this city on Monday night.

The 30-minute fire destroyed 50 houses in Barangay 2 and left 37-year-old Rex Villamor injured.

The families are sheltered in the barangay hall and daycare center.

Arson investigator Fire Officer 3 Marc Stephen Trajeras said the fire broke out in Espie Yanson’s house just before 11 p.m.

Trajeras said an unattended kerosene lamp might have caused the fire.

Authorities pegged the damage at P200,000.

Village chief Victor Thords Aliguin said the victims have received assistance from the city government.

City social welfare officer Lorna Solinap said each of the families will be given P5,000 in financial assistance.
