Basilan capital cited anew for disaster management

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – The city of Lamitan in Basilan has been cited anew for having the best disaster risk reduction and management plan from among all local government units (LGUs) in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Mayor Rose Furigay received the 2015 ARMM Regional Gawad Kalasag award and P50,000 cash from representatives of the Civil Defense Office in a ceremony held recently.

It was the second time for the city to receive the award, which recognizes LGUs with ready-to-execute disaster mitigation plans and emergency manpower pool that could respond to any situation.

Lamitan is Basilan’s new capital, replacing Isabela.
