Blast hits military compound

John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – A grenade exploded inside the compound of an Army battalion headquarters in this city on Wednesday.

No one was reported hurt in the explosion, but the incident caused panic in the surroundings of the 6th Civil-Military Operations Battalion on Pedro Colina Hill.

City police chief Senior Superintendent Raul Supiter said probers were still sifting through debris at the blast site to determine the kind of explosive used and establish the identities of the perpetrators.

The city was thrice rocked by grenade blasts recently, which left two members of the Army’s 5th Special Forces Battalion wounded.

Supiter said more policemen would be deployed in strategic spots in the city to prevent a repeat of the incident.
