QCPD meets auto dealers on thefts, stolen vehicles trade

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Friday met with auto surplus dealers in a bid to curb car thefts and selling of stolen motor vehicles' parts in the city. 
 
QCPD Director Chief Superintendent Edgardo Gonzales Tinio sat down with some 120 members of the Quezon City Automotive Surplus Dealers Association (QC-ASDA) to strengthen the implementation of laws on motor vehicle theft.
 
Tinio said the dialogue aims to ensure the full implementation of the Anti-carnapping Law and the Anti-fencing Law and eliminate the channels of illegal trade of stolen vehicles and parts in the city.
 
He said that this will also ensure that customers will have a peace of mind, knowing that they are not contributing to or exacerbating auto or motorcycle thefts when they buy such auto parts.
 
During the meeting, QCPD officials also discussed the provisions of the two laws with the members of the group, urging them to fully comply with the provisions of selling only legitimate second-hand motor vehicles.
 
"We also ask their support and cooperation by informing us of those who sell second-hand spare parts from suspected carnapped automobiles and motorcycles for appropriate action,” Tinio said.
