Suspects in ex-Camarines Sur mayor’s slay surrender

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – A radio broadcaster and his wife surrendered yesterday after being issued an arrest warrant for the murder of former Lupi, Camarines Sur mayor Raul Matamorosa in 2012.

Accompanied by lawyer Marion Legacion, Joe Osabal, manager of dwKM-FM, and his wife Jovy, also a former mayor of Lupi, surrendered to Regional Trial Court Branch 23 Judge Valentin Pura.

The Osabals were accused of masterminding the killing of Matamorosa, who was shot by a lone gunman as he was about to board his car on Oct. 27, 2012.

Jovy, who was vice mayor at the time of the incident, succeeded Matamorosa. She ran for mayor in 2013, but lost to Matamorosa’s elder brother, Bobby.

The Osabals were detained at the Tinangis Penal Farm in Pili town. They filed a petition for bail, which was set for hearing today.

Wilfredo Sasota, David Osea, Eure Terceño and two John Does have also been charged for Matamorosa’s murder.
