Toddler dies,14 hurt in Negros mishaps

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – A one-year-old girl died while 14 others were injured in two separate vehicular accidents in Bago City, Negros Occidental Tuesday night, police reported yesterday.

The fatality was identified as Jen-jen Villanueva of Barangay Dulao. Among those injured were Marlon Jabagat, Hernanie Campos, Aljon Pateno, Elamar Martizano, Randy Batiguas, Jocelyn Gerona; Joyna Mae Ambid, Angelo Fernandez, Heart Francisco and Emmanuel Vido.

Also injured were the girl’s parents, Jayve Mae and Joven, and her grandmother Jocelyn Villanueva.

City police chief Superintendent Arnel Arpon said Campos was driving a tricycle with eight passengers when his vehicle collided with a truck driven by Jabagat in Barangay Calumangan at around 10:25 p.m.

The victims were rushed to Bago City Hospital for treatment. Jabagat, who was also injured, surrendered to the police.

Thirty minutes later, another accident occurred in the village, resulting in the death of Villanueva, who was being rushed to the Bago City Hospital.

Villanueva, her parents and grandmother were in a truck driven by Jose Jerry Juano when the vehicle crashed into the rear of a passenger bus driven by Teody Bautista.
