MANILA, Philippines - For allegedly collecting excessive placement fees, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has barred an agency from recruiting and deploying Filipino workers abroad.
POEA chief Hans Cacdac said they cancelled the license of Goodman International Manpower for collecting exorbitant fee from a manicurist it deployed to Singapore.
The complainant alleged that the company required her to pay P100,000. She said she applied for a loan from a lending company to be able to pay the amount.
The complainant said Goodman did not issue her a receipt corresponding to the amount she paid and she was deployed to Singapore using a tourist visa.
Cacdac said the OFW resigned from her job three weeks later.
Aside from the ban, Goodman was ordered to pay a P450,000 fine based on the complaint.
Cacdac also disqualified the officials of the recruitment agency from engaging in any activity involving hiring and deployment of workers.
